Paso Robles Wine: Jada Vineyard

July 27, 2016 matt 6 Comments

We recently went out to Jada Vineyard to do some wine tasting with our friend Sean. It had been years since we had tasted there but figured it was time to revisit. Jada Vineyard is on Vineyard Drive which is one of the most beautiful wine country drives you can take.

Upon arrival we were told we could go out on the covered, second floor patio and someone would be out to take care of us. Now that’s a great way to taste. The patio is open and the views are rolling hills of vineyards and oak trees. Hard to beat that.

Another friend of ours, Alyssa, was working and took fantastic care of the three of us. She was knowledgeable about the wines as well as the cheese pairing…which, by the way, was so good. The cheese for each wine was provided by Vivant Fine Cheese in downtown Paso Robles.

Here’s what we tasted:

2015 1149 Rose (100% Estate Mourvedre) – 100% biodynamic farming practices $28.00

2014 XCV (37% Estate Grenache Blanc 33% Estate Viognier 30% Estate Roussanne) – 100% biodynamic farming practices $38.00 – Paired with Mango Ginger Stilton

2011 Malstria (Estate Syrah, Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Merlot) $32.00 – Paired with 5 Year Gouda

2012 Jersey Girl (96% Estate Syrah 3% Estate Roussanne 1% Estate Viognier – co-fermented) $50.00 – Paired with Ewephoria

2013 Strayts (75% Estate Merlot 25% Estate Cabernet Sauvignon) $50.00 – Paired with Bella Vitano Gold

2012 Hell’s Kitchen (55% Estate Syrah 27% Estate Grenache 17% Estate Mourvedere 0.5% Estate Viognier 0.5% Estate Roussanne) $55.00 – Paired with Midnight Moon

All three of us thought the wines were quite nice. I’d even say I enjoyed them more on this visit. The cheese pairings were spot on too. If I had to pick a couple of favorites with the wine I’d go with the Rose, the Malstria, and the Strayts…but again, I honestly liked each one. My favorite cheese was the 5-year Gouda, so good! The pairing with the Strayts and Hell’s Kitchen were perfection.

Thank you to Alyssa for a wonderful wine tasting! And thanks to Sean for going out on the wine trail with us. Good times, as usual!

Love the Mango Stilton cheese with any great Rhone Rose but also with Rhone white. Any Rhone white that leads with Grenache Blanc is a great food wine for me!
