Wine Swap: New York & Paso Robles

February 25, 2011 matt 9 Comments

Have we mentioned that we love Facebook and Twitter? Well, we do…and here’s why; we’ve met countless awesome friends via social media and one of them is Sandra March (go say hi on Facebook or Twitter). We did a wine swap with Sandra where we sent her two bottles of Paso Robles wines and she sent us two bottles of New York wines (um, cuz she lives in New York).

When her box of booze arrived, it was like Christmas for winos. The beautiful shiny bottles contained wine from Heron Hill Winery in the Finger Lakes wine region of NY. One was an ’08 Chardonnay and the other was an ’07 Cabernet Franc…holy guacamole Batman, two of our favorite things (3 if you include the guacamole)!!

The ’08 Chardonnay had a slight chemical nose to it at first but that blew off and revealed some wet stone, warm pear, spice, and cinnamon to the nose and palate. An interesting wine and for Chardonnay lovers like us, we enjoyed it. Not sure of the price per bottle.

The ’07 Cabernet Franc started out a little tight, pretty typical when you first open a wine…red especially. There was some tart cherry and spice as it started balancing out while being open a while. We are big Cab Franc fans but are primarily very used to Paso Robles wines, so it’s very nice trying these varietals from other places to see the differences in winemaking, soil, weather, and so on.

Thank you again to Sandra for the wines, that was an awesome way to learn about wines from different areas.

A side note: it’s Friday peeps, February 25, 2011…you will never have another 2-25-11 so make the best of it. Take a step back, focus on the things that are working and going well, enjoy your friends and family…and more than anything, please share a glass of wine with someone you care about and enjoy those seconds and minutes because THAT is what LIFE is about!! Happy Friday!

That’s awesome Annie, what a cool way to share the wine around the USA. How did she like PR wine? Meeting some ladies from church for breakfast, a couple ladies I haven’t seen in a while. Then possibly a movie “The Grace Card” christian movie don’t know if it’s playing up there yet, but it’s playing in every state. Have a great week-end.

You bet! Toucan Winery is coming to Downey tonight at Maris Wine Shop, we may stop in if my hubby isn’t tired. They are in Arroyo Grande, have you been there?
