I wrote this about 3 months back…when we’d just gotten the fetal heart monitor in the mail. After our miscarriage experience, we wanted to be able to listen to the baby at home, and get that reassured feeling now and then. Without any outward signs of being pregnant, it can be a little mysterious! (And if you’re like me, mysterious = not knowing, which can = spinning out!)
Got the fetal doppler in the mail today and tried it out for the first time. The baby is 9 1/2 weeks along and we figured we’d see what this doppler thing is all about. That’s right, pull the pants down, lube the belly up and roll that little thing around until you hear something! We tested ourselves first…heart rates in the 70s and 80s, then moved down to my abdomen and felt around. Holy mother of fetus, there it was!!! A heartbeat down in there somewhere…seemed to be in the 120’s (which is a little low for my liking) and sounded like it’s in a wind tunnel. Is that me with all that wind inside??? I googled the heart rate and seems that anything between 120 and 180 is normal, so we’re actually in the normal zone, which is reassuring. “They” also say that a low heart rate could be a sign that the baby is resting.
Here we go again, more reminders that there’s actually a living thing inside of me. All I feel out here on the outside is nausea and headache, and fatness…while Matt feels the minor (or major) frustrations of dealing with a weird pregnant lady, so when we get these tangible signs it’s pretty cool! It makes things more real, less dreamy and pouffy. Funny how things can come together in life…from talking about getting pregnant just a few months ago, to getting pregnant and miscarrying, to getting pregnant again and hearing heartbeats and seeing little nubs in there!
This could actually come to be…crazy!!!
Here’s a sample of Little Browne’s Beat…this was recorded more recently, we wanted to give you the full experience!
