Watching the San Francisco Giants celebrate their World Series Championship made me think of the journey to the pay off. For them, the journey was a 162 game regular season followed by the playoffs and then the World Series. Like the Giants, we are each on a journey in which we are awaiting the pay off. When you think about their accomplishment, it reminds me how durable, persistent, and willing we have to be to endure the journey. It’s also a great reminder to slow it down a bit and enjoy the journey. If we spend our entire lives only enjoying the pay offs, we are ignoring a large percentage of our life. Some say the journey is about the pay off but I think the reverse could be said, the payoff is about the journey.
The other thing I walked away with was the ‘togetherness’ we saw as they celebrated. It struck me that in times of great excitement and exhilaration we come together as in times of the opposite, specifically, I remembered how the country came together on 9/ 11, obviously in times of great sadness. It’s an interesting situation; in times of devastation and times of utter happiness we come together, so there’s all this in between time where we seem to walk by each other like two ships passing in the night. Just an odd thought I had, but how can we have that ‘togetherness’ more often?
