I wrote this back on 11-29-11 but I think it is still valid and my position remains the same:
Russel Simmons was on Morning Joe on MSNBC this morning, and said that the OWS movement was not against big business or business in general, they just want the power back to the people…that they want to control their future, they don’t want business to control their future.
This doesn’t make much sense to me. Business didn’t just take over our lives, we allowed it to. And beyond that, businesses aren’t some robotic alien that rule America, businesses are people…businesses are filled with people, human beings that make decisions. So all this complaining about business is somewhat ridiculous if you ask me…we need to complain about the people running these businesses…we need to complain about the board of directors at each of these big businesses…we need to complain about how business people and political people have come together to screw America.
The people do have the power, period. We choose to wake up every morning and give Washington D.C., Wall Street, and Lindsey Lohan the power because we are afraid, deep down we want to be told what to do and where to go. You can’t tell me that we do not have the power….if 100% of the 99% stood up and stopped buying gas and stopped paying taxes until the government fixed shit…you don’t think things would change? They can’t arrest all of us, and in California our prisons are overcrowded so they wouldn’t even take us in.
So, in truth, the problem is people standing up together (and not just a few hundred, a few thousand, we need tens of millions) for a common cause/ goal. We most certainly do have the power, we are just choosing not to take it. And to be even more honest, even if the OWS movement were to take power, I’m not sure they would know what to do with it.
