Where to Eat: The Carrisa in San Luis Obispo

March 10, 2020 matt Leave a Comment

The Carrisa is another spot we heard about and decided to go to on a recent Sunday after Sammy’s flag football game at Cal Poly. It’s located on Higuera Street across the street from Mother’s Tavern. They have a nice front patio you could enjoy, a huge indoor area for seating, or a back patio above the creek. It’s nice to have those kinds of options.

We were seated immediately and the customer service from start to finish was perfect. The vibe inside was awesome. I can’t really say one thing about it but it just felt very comfortable, like one of those places where you could stay and hang out.

What we ordered:

Matt: chilaquiles – charred salsa, two eggs sunny side up, cotija cheese $12.00

Annie: street sliders – certified angus beef patties, applewood smoked nueske’s bacon, cheddar, tomato jam, brioche bun, French fries $15.00

Sammy: A plain cheese quesadilla because he’s a rebel

Annie and I shared the items we ordered and they were both terrific, I would order them again for sure. Some might say the portions were small but I’m not someone that gets offended by portion sizes. Actually, that’s not true. I think big portion sizes are part of what is wrong with food and health in this country. I guess I actually prefer smaller portions, generally. More importantly, the food was flavorful!

This is one of those places I wish we had up here in Paso Robles, I would definitely go there more often. That said, when we do get down to SLO, The Carrisa is now on our go-to list. It goes back to what I say often. Great service, great food and drink, and a vibe that is casual and inviting. Shout out to Milton, part owner, for stopping by our table and chatting with us. Thank you for the hospitality!
