Rotta Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the area…founded in 1908 by the Rotta family, and brought back to life by the Rotta’s grandson, Mike Guibbini. http://www.rottawinery.com/ The tasting room is rustic and charming, right off their barrel room, and they’ve got a great list to taste through! The day we were in they had 12 wines for us to taste, and that we did. Our pour hostess, Kristie, was knowledgeable and humorous and walked us through the list like a pro! Their prices are incredibly reasonable and the variety of wines was broad; From a stainless Chardonnay, to a big red blend, to dessert wines, they’ve definitely got something for everybody’s palate. They’re known for some of their estate dry-farmed Zinfandels, so don’t forget to try those. Annie’s absolute favorite is the Black Monnukka, a sherry-style dessert wine that tastes like oatmeal cookie dough (that’s a good thing)! Remember, that’s what it’s all about; learning about what you like and don’t like.

I like your new blog. I want to check out Rotta Winery and taste your favorite Black Monnukka. I have an 08 sweet port called Alvear Pedro Ximenez de auada that my husband liked and they say you could pour it on waffles, pancakes, ice cream to add a sweet touch. But I didn’t care for it, until the next winery (Tobin James, or Norman is good too)…Cheers!

I thought this post looked different. Nice work! And if you think there are any wines that you’ve come across from your region that I absolutely must try, let me know. Do they ship to NY?
Hoot 'n Annie says
