Port Blending with First Crush Winemaking and Roxo Port Cellars

November 16, 2010 matt 8 Comments

Another first for us, we went to a port blending seminar put on by First Crush Winemaking and Roxo Port Cellars.  This was a can’t-miss for us due to our love of port wines, and to have it hosted by Becky and Lowell Zelinski of First Crush was awesome.  First Crush puts on seasonal events where they get you out in the vineyards and in the winemaking facilities to learn the process, as Becky says, “from berry to bottle”.  If you ever want to learn more about wine and the processes behind it, First Crush provides very educational classes while keeping it a casual atmosphere.  After all, we wouldn’t be able to handle the status quo classroom with our personalities, so being mixmasters with port was the coolest way to get learned up!!

Here we are telling you all about it….

Sandra, we’re still learning, but love the ones that are full and rich but not too sweet! Roxo does an excellent job with their ports, all in the Portuguese style, using those varietals. They had a “Bastardo” that we used in the blend that was my favorite…of course it was the most expensive and difficult to grow, but it was tasty!!!

Awesome place I’ve heard of them and would love someday to attend one of their workshops.
