We stopped in at the Meritage Tasting Lounge in downtown Paso Robles. Roxo Port Cellars was hosting a port and cigar evening to promote the 2011 Crush and Roll West event coming up in September. It’s hard to beat the combination of a great glass of port and smooth cigar, all shared with good friends and new acquaintances.
We talked to David “Doc” Diaz of the online cigar magazine, Stogie Fresh. His magazine is dedicated to all things stogie, and he’s passionately involved with the C&R event. He’s part of a great team of people putting this event on in an effort to promote the enjoyment and appreciation of cigars. The event is incredible; it’s more than just cigars…it’s jam packed with educational seminars, wines, beer, food, live music and quality cigars!
If you’re already a fan of enjoying a nice stogie once in a while, then we don’t have to tell you what a fun hobby it can be. If you’ve never partaken, then we’re here to tell you that everything deserves a try! Sure, cigars have gotten a bad wrap at times, but if you get your hands on a good cigar, learn how to properly light and draw on it, then you’ll gain an understanding why it’s a lifestyle. It’s a state of mind…a way of relaxing and enjoying the finer things in life. Come on…all the cool kids are doing it!!!
Check out Doc, explaining what C&R is all about, all while smoking a stogie and wearing a skirt! (Okay, well he’s wearing a kilt, which is way cooler than a skirt!)

Wow I wish I could say “See you in September” lol, sounds like a great event coming up. Thanks Doc, love the kilt! The owner of the former company I worked for always wore his kilt for special occasions and funerals. We also have a Sports Bar called Tilted Kilt…in Long Beach, cool place.

You never know, Bev! Maybe you’ll be here! Love the kilts, too…and we had a place here called the “Crooked Kilt” but they got in trouble for their name and had to change it. In fact, I think it was the “Tilted Kilt” that got after them for them!

My spouse enjoys a good cigar and usually purchases at Total Wine. I cannot partake due to Asthma – my spouse is sweet though because I usually get to smell them before he heads outside to enjoy it. By the way Annie we are checking out the Meritage when we come into town in August – sounds like an awesome place – on our To Do List for sure. We enjoy reading your blog and for you comments on what to see and do when we come into town – so truly appreciate it. Makes it a little less daunting and hey cannot do everything in one trip so we will have to come for another trip and another trip:)

Hey Renee! Love the smell of cigars, too! And partaking is pleasant every now and then, too!!! So glad to hear your feedback on the blog! That’s why we do it, so people come and experience our favorite area!!! Cheers!!! (Be sure to tell ’em Hoot ‘n Annie sent you!!!)

Matt n Annie, you guys did a great job with the impromptu interview, as always. That was fun and I hope people will cometo Crush & Roll West to see what it is all about. Men, bring your wives and ladyfriends (not at the same time, of course 😉 . If nothing else, they will enjoy the wine, entertainment, sun and fun. But it has been my experience that, once they learn about the artisanal nature of premium cigars, they will want to smoke one (or three).

Hey Doc! Thanks for the feedback…it’s to do interviews when you’re working with good people! We’re looking forward to the event and hope to see a bunch of HnA fans there, too!!! We’ll get our smoke on with the best of ’em!
