We were in Los Angeles for one night a few days ago and stayed at The Standard Hotel in downtown LA. The purpose for the overnight was to lend moral support for someone close to us which led to about 25 or 30 of us staying at this hotel or nearby.
This hotel was absolutely perfect, in my opinion, for the group of us that was there. It’s obviously an older hotel but they’ve done a great job maintaining and decorating it. I’d call it retro, Austin Powers-esque. It really was a blast.
Some highlights: The rooms were cool. For the voyeurs out there, many of the rooms have windows from the shower area to the living room…wink, wink. We didn’t spend much time in there though because, well, they have a rooftop bar and beer garden. A bunch of us spent a fair amount of time up there drinking, eating, and enjoying the views. They also have a pool and ping pong table on the roof.
That leads me to the ping pong bar they have but did not make it to. Apparently we screwed up and spent NO time there. I’m not a ping pong addict (I don’t think) but when tables are around…I PLAY! If we make it back to The Standard I will absolutely be found in there.
They also have a restaurant downstairs (which we ate at a couple of times) and the food was great. So this leads me to my biggest pet peeve on the planet…customer service. At The Standard, from the valet parking, to the front desk, to the restaurant on the first floor, to the roof…every single member of the staff that we encountered was awesome. I have zero complaints about anyone.
Which is exactly why I’d go back anytime. Hell, if I lived nearby I’d be there often playing ping pong and enjoying that roof. If you end up in the area go check them out. We’ll meet you there if we’re in the area.
