Levo is another of the many wineries opening up shop in Tin City. We were hearing good things about this one and decided go in to taste. Bret Urness, owner/ winemaker, was in there with his girlfriend, Sabrina, and they poured us through the tasting menu.
Here’s what we tasted:
Ultraviolet Rose 2014 (87% Grenache 9% Grenache Blanc 3% Roussanne 1% Viognier) $22.00
Volts 2014 (41% Roussanne 31% Grenache Blanc 28% Viognier) $28.00
Smithereens 2013 (75% Grenache 13% Syrah 9% Petite Sirah 2% Roussanne 1% Viognier) $36.00
Mint 2013 (96% Syrah 4% Grenache) $36.00
Spot 2013 (97% Syrah 3% Grenache) $42.00
The Heavy 2013 (88% Petite Sirah 8% Syrah 4% Grenache) $36.00
We really enjoyed the Ultraviolet (because Rose is awesome) and the Volts (crisp, lemon zest, blossom). The Smithereens (really smooth, balanced, vanilla) was beautiful and we enjoyed the violet and blueberry on the Mint. The whole lineup was bad ass but if I had to call my favorites there you go.
The tasting room is big, clean, and minimalistic. I’m a fan because some tasting rooms have way too much crap in them. Bret’s a cool guy. Good sense of humor (his business card says ‘grape babysitter / winemaker’), mellow, and passionate about what he’s doing.
He’s another one I urge you to check out and follow. I think he’s on to something. Check out Bret’s about us page here to learn a bit more and watch the cool video he put together.
