Cambria: The Beach, Beer, and Wine

July 21, 2016 Annie 4 Comments

On a recent adventure we headed over to Moonstone Beach in Cambria. I know, we go there quite a bit so how can it really be an adventure? Well, this time we headed up a little further north to a different area of Moonstone Beach that we had not been to before. This section was more rocky than sandy but still beautiful.

The nice side effect of the rockiness were the tide pools. Sammy got to see crabs, sea snails, sea urchin, and more. It was super cool and of course it’s nice to get to the beach but it’s even better when it can be a learning situation too. He seemed to enjoy it quite a bit but when it comes to a toddler, you do have to stay with him and make sure he isn’t stepping on any of the sea life.

After exploring there for a while we decided to head into town. We hit up 927 Beer Company, formerly known as Cambria Beer Company, for a beer. Annie had the Ghost Belgian Wit and I had the Amber Ale. The beer wasn’t bad but in the last 6 months I haven’t been drinking beer hardly at all. So I think my “beer buds” are a bit off. The owner was behind the counter and was super nice.

From there we wondered down to Black Hand Cellars. You can check out their wines here. We enjoyed the 2014 Sovereignty (white blend $24.00) and several of the reds. One of which we took home with us, the Raketir (61% Petit Verdot 27% Tempranillo 12% Syrah $25.00). Gino (or Geno) poured for us and he was a cool dude that was quite comfortable talking about the wines…obviously knew his stuff.

So that’s that for today. Where do you normally go in Cambria?

We usually (well, always) go to Soto’s deli for their tri-tip sandwiches. That, and the Cambria Cafe for incredible Chile Verde omelets.

We’ve never been let down. Not once.

I’ve not been to either, Gordon. Thanks for the tips!

We always go to the Sea Chest for dinner. They have the freshest tasting fish! No credit cards. No reservations – there are two seatings. We aim for the 5:30 first seating. You’ll want to get there no later than 5:00pm – that’s usually when the line begins to form. Bring a glass (or bottle!) of wine to enjoy while you wait. We’ve met many very interesting people waiting to get into the Sea Chest!
