We attended last year’s Fryers Club roast of Gary Eberle and had so much fun we felt the need to attend again this year. This time everyone’s attention was on Stephan Asseo from L’Aventure Winery. The evening started with sparkling wine and ended with live music by Burning James and the Funky Flames but a lot happened in between.
Let’s start with the food. There were several local chefs/ restaurants including Chef Jeffry Wiesinger, The Hatch, Paso Robles Golf Club, Trumpet Vine Catering, and more. I didn’t have much but the paella from Chef Jeffry and the duck meatballs from The Hatch were amazing. There was also a bunch of local wine flowing as well as beer from Firestone Brewery and Barrehouse Brewing.
Yet another thing we love about this event is that it’s small, roughly 200 people, and it’s like going to a reunion of sorts. We saw so many friends all coming together to have fun, yes, but to give back to this community. This event benefits must! charities, a local charity that focuses on the North County of San Luis Obispo. In fact, the 15-lot auction brought in over $18,500.00 for the organization. I will admit that Annie may have helped in the dollar amount by bidding on something.
Now to the roast. There were numerous roasters to take on Stephan Asseo including Maggie Tillman from Alta Colina Winery, Gary Eberle of Eberle Winery, Chris Cherry from Villa Creek Cellars, Marc Windward of Windward Winery, and more. It’s always funny to hear these folks roast one another. This small, tight-knit town really shows when these folks get together. Behind all of the jokes there is a deep respect and love for one another.
The venue. If you have not been fortunate enough to visit Terra Mia for an event, you’re really missing out. This place is absolutely beautiful, you can see evidence of that in the photos below. Thank you to owners, Rich and Tracy Secchiaroli, for allowing us to invade this amazing property.
That does it for me. Check out the photos to get an idea of our evening and a big thank you to everyone involved.
