Where to Eat: The Sea Chest in Cambria, CA.

May 9, 2019 matt Leave a Comment

Back in late April of this year we decided to do a little overnight staycation on the Central Coast in Cambria. Annie and I have done this before without Sammy but this time we wanted to bring him along since it was his Spring Break.

We stayed at the Little Sur Inn, which is where we stayed before and it is conveniently located right next door to the one and only, Sea Chest Restaurant. If you’ve not been to the Sea Chest, it’s pretty cool. They are cash or check only and they open daily (closed Tuesdays) at 5:30 pm but be prepared, it’s first come first served and the line on this night started around 4:15 pm.

No worries though, the line becomes a party filled with strangers. You meet people from all over the place and you bring a bottle of wine to sip on while you wait. Back to the Little Sur Inn for a minute. With it being right next door, we could see the restaurant from our patio and noticed the crowd showing up so Annie went over and we were fourth in line. The Inn, by the way, is great. It feels quite clean, the décor is nice, and with the majestic Pacific Ocean right across the street…the views are perfection!

Let’s get back to our dinner. We had the only kid in the restaurant, which isn’t that strange for us. Sammy is well behaved in these environments and eats pretty much anything. We ordered raw oysters, escargot, crab legs, and a swordfish dish…and Sammy loved all of it! In fact, he did so well with dinner we ordered him some dessert.

The food is spectacular, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and as with our hotel room, views of the Pacific Ocean right across the street really are the frosting on top to the experience. I would absolutely put this restaurant on the list of don’t miss in San Luis Obispo County…so go check it out and let us know what you think.
