The California Coastal Winery Turning a Seaside Village into a Must-Stop Wine Destination

Stolo Vineyards is less than three miles from the Pacific Ocean and is a world away from Paso Robles

May 21, 2018 (Cambria, Calif.) – Tucked just outside of a small, seaside village on California’s Central Coast is Stolo Vineyards and it’s taking the wine world by storm. The family-owned winery is winning one wine award after another as word spreads about the premiere cool climate wine producer halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Less than 45 minutes west of wine region juggernaut, Paso Robles, Cambria offers a completely different climate allowing for incredible Burgundian and Northern Rhône styled wines. Stolo Vineyards is 2.8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, is bordered by emerald green hills to the north, a year-round stream to the south and by the scenic Santa Lucia Mountains to the east. The mountains divide Cambria and its maritime influence from the heat and temperature spikes found in Paso Robles, which can average 30 degrees warmer during the summer months. Stolo Vineyards maintain an average temperature of 60 to 70 degrees resulting in even temperatures and fruit that matures in a slow, consistent manner.

The mountain range between Cambria and Paso Robles is crucial in creating these separate wine destinations. Cambria sits on the west side nearer to the ocean. The cooler, even temperatures translate into fruit having more time on the vine which then becomes more expressive of “place.” The cold ocean breeze naturally keeps vine yields low, producing grapes with more varietal character and concentration.

“Cambria is a beautiful place to make wine,” says winemaker, Nicole Pope. “I’ve worked harvests around the world and throughout California, there is no place like this vineyard tucked into such an incredible location.”

Pope is able to use thinner-skinned grapes like Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir without the fear of heat spikes, which can damage the delicate fruit or lead to excessive, overripe flavors. The cool climate also helps maintain the acidity and flavor profile needed for producing quality wines from these varieties.

It’s a labor of love and a process of patience that results in wines that truly express this unique location in Coastal California. For more information on Stolo Vineyards, please visit https://www.stolofamilyvineyards.com/. Limited samples are available to qualified media upon request.
