This was an event we went to in October that was all about the women’s movement and highlighting women in general but a handful specifically. Rather than me give the low down on who was there, check out this short blurb that was on the Studios website:
“Studios on the Park invites you to an intimate and important evening celebrating leading women creating art, wine and cuisine.
Flavors of Seen and Heard begins at Studios on the Park with an introduction to the exhibition and review of featured works by artist and guest curator Lena Rushing. Then advanced sommelier Ali Rush Carscaden of 15C takes the floor to share her journey in wine and business. The evening culminates with an extraordinary, four-course meal at La Cosecha prepared by Chef/Owner Santos MacDonal, inspired by and paired with wines by six local female winemakers: Janell Dusi, Jordan Fiorentini, Riley Hubbard, Vailia From, Amy Butler and Janis Denner.”
Our time at Studios on the Park was quite powerful for Annie and I. Listening to Lena and Ali tell their stories was inspiring. As a white man, it made me think about how far we’ve come as a society but sadly, it also showed me how far we still have to go. Why in the world do we treat people differently just because they don’t look like us? It’s simply absurd. I am sure Annie and I will have more to say about the issues of inequality in the future as we’ve been discussing it regularly since this event. It’s important to know that we each play a role in this narrative.
The wines from the ladies mentioned above as well as the meal at La Cosecha were superb. It was Janell from J. Dusi, Jordan from Epoch, Riley and Vailia with Desperada, and Amy and Janis with their new collaboration, Dorothy Jean Wines. A huge thank you to all of the women that took part in this event and a special thank you to Carole MacDonal from La Cosecha. Obviously, we need to thank Chef Santos and his crew for an amazing dinner.
A great night in Paso Robles with some insanely creative, intelligent women. Thank you! Check the photos below for more insight into the evening.
