What Is Beauty???

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

Who said that? Maybe the better question would be, why do we say that? Well, I suppose because it sort of explains the phenomena that what I perceive as beauty will likely differ from what you perceive as beauty, and our differences of opinion just don’t matter, damnit! While I agree, I also want to add a little twist to this one; maybe we shouldn’t even worry so much about the beholder and figure out what it is that makes each of us FEEL beautiful and go from there.

I know that I feel beautiful when I feel healthy and strong. I also felt beautiful when I was pregnant. Why is that? Well, I think for me it has to do with a sense of knowing that my body is very capable of accomplishing things when I feed it well and treat it right. The pregnant thing was also feeling like my body was this amazing machine that could literally perform miracles. That’s a pretty empowering feeling!

Maybe you feel beautiful when you fit into that dress or when your husband comes out of nowhere to tell you that you look great. I guess my point here is to tell you that whatever it is that makes you feel beautiful is the thing that you should be focusing on. Forget about how the media defines beautiful, what do they know about you, anyway??? Who cares about the too-skinny, fake-boobed, bleached, airbrushed, made-up chick in a bikini? Why do we let ourselves measure our own beauty against that ruler?

How about this…how about we stop measuring ourselves against others and remember that each one of us is beautiful?!?!? Let’s teach our sons and daughters to do the same, and then maybe, just maybe, we can start to see change happen. We can start to see the beauty in ourselves.

Find your inner beauty and go with it…once you do, you’ll be amazed at just how easy it is to let the inner beauty come out!
