I recently had an altercation with a Mandolin. And I don’t mean the instrument…I mean the slicing, cutting machine that makes your life easier (if used properly) or a bloody hell (if used improperly). While making these Sweet Potato Chips, I got a little over-excited and cut the hell out of my thumb. It happened in a millisecond and I immediately knew it was a good one.
So, I wanted to share my experience with you in case you needed info on how to handle it. Of course, I tried to bandage it up and stop the bleeding, but nothing really seemed to work. After much googling and realizing that I use my thumb a lot more than I ever realized, I broke down and went to our local Urgent Care.
They had me soak it in an iodine/saline solution for a good 15 minutes to be sure it was good and clean…then they applied a pseudo-skin mesh over the gash. As there was nothing to stitch…thankfully, I didn’t have to go through that! Then they wrapped me up tight in bandages and tube gauze and sent me on my way.
As of now, 10 days later, it’s looking much better, airing out most of the day, sans bandaid, and feeling almost not sore at all.
So, skip the super glue, homespun gauze, duct tape and any other creative fixes that Google wants to throw your way and get to an Urgent Care. You’ll thank me later!
